This aluminium 80 metre Dragonship - 5 decks, 3 masts, folding amas - is the flagship of the Dragonship range of trimarans, which spans the 80m, 50m, 35m and our baby Dragon at just 25m.
The rig is highly innovative and cutting-edge, similar to the wing masts used on the America's Cup AC72 yachts. It does away with sheets for control, relying instead on a powered rotating mast supporting the aerofoil section sail. Fully automated for reefing and stowing, the system can rotate the sail surface to the most efficient angle to the wind on any point of sail - and even gybe the sails over the foredeck thanks to the rig's 360 degree rotational freedom.
Propulsion is all electric, using fast-recharge battery technology charged by solar cells integrated into the fabric of the Autosail. Because a 30m beam can be a challenge in harbour, the amas fold away alongside the main hull when docked.
Layout
Designed to be charter-friendly, she accommodates 12 guests in six cabins, supported by a crew of 17. Crew cabins are located in the amas, while the captain's suite sits on the upper deck near the bridge. Tenders and toys are stored within the amas, leaving the aft end free for a stunning owner's suite complete with permanent balcony and private access foyer.
The main deck hosts the saloon, bar, dining room, library, spa and gym, wrapped by a wide promenade. The upper deck features the sky lounge, an exterior bar overlooking the jacuzzi, spacious sun-pads and a built-in awning system. Exterior helm stations on the fifth deck boast commanding views of the rig - with seating and a bar for guests to share the thrill of helming this powerful, graceful vessel.
